Cholesterol without giving up a normal Indian kitchen

A cholesterol report is not a moral score. It is one look at fats travelling in the blood, read next to your pressure, sugar, and family story.

This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.

In plain language

LDL is the fraction that settles in arteries. HDL is often called the helpful one. Triglycerides climb with sweets, alcohol, and refined flour. A clinician cares about the pattern and your overall risk, not a single number circled in red by a lab app.

Signs worth noticing

You will not feel high cholesterol. The first sign is sometimes the heart attack people think came from nowhere.

What usually sits underneath

Fried snacks, reused oil, ghee in large spoons, sweets, and long sitting do more than one egg. Some families also inherit high cholesterol that diet alone will not fix.

Care that is reasonable at home

  1. Keep fried food for occasions. Use a measured spoon of oil, not a free pour.
  2. Fill half the plate with vegetables or salad, a quarter with dal, curd, eggs, or paneer, and a quarter with roti or rice.
  3. Walk most days. Muscle uses the fuel that otherwise lingers as triglyceride.
  4. If a statin was prescribed, ask why, and do not stop it because a neighbour felt muscle pain on a different dose.

Very low-fat crash diets are hard to keep and not required. Consistency over a year beats a heroic month.

When waiting is a bad idea

How Rao Lokram Charitable Trust fits in

We can repeat the fasting lipid test through the lab, look at sugar and pressure the same day, and explain which number actually needs a medicine. OPD runs Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at Near Rockford School, Anaj Mandi Chowk, Kadipur Road, Shakti Park, Sector 10A, Gurugram, Haryana. Call 98185 48492 or 70423 28047. There is no appointment form on this website.

Questions people ask

Must I stop rice?

No. Portion and what you add to it matter more than banning a staple.

Are eggs forbidden?

For most people, eggs in moderation are fine. Ask if you already have established heart disease.

How often is the test due?

Often every few years if risk is low, and more often if you are on treatment. Follow the interval you were given.

If this sounds like you, bring the article on your phone if you want, but let the clinician examine you. Old reports and a list of current medicines make the visit shorter.
