Type 2 diabetes, explained without the scare poster
Type 2 diabetes is a long problem with insulin, not a punishment for one plate of rice. Most people live better with it when they stop treating the report as optional.
This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.
In plain language
Insulin is the key that lets sugar move from blood into muscle. In type 2 diabetes the key still exists, but the lock is stubborn, and later the key itself runs low. Sugar then sits in the blood and, over years, scratches eyes, kidneys, nerves, and arteries. The illness often starts years earlier as borderline reports people file away.
Signs worth noticing
Thirst, frequent urine, tiredness, and a slow-healing foot are late clues. Many people have no clue at all.
- Needing water at night and passing urine more often than before.
- Blurred vision that comes and goes with the sugar, not with age alone.
- Tingling in the feet, or a cut that is still open next week.
- Repeated urine infections or itching, especially if weight has also climbed.
What usually sits underneath
Family history, waist size, inactivity, and years of borderline sugars are the usual background. Some medicines, including long steroid courses, can push a vulnerable person over the line. One sweet festival does not cause diabetes. A decade of pattern might.
Care that is reasonable at home
- Get a proper blood test rather than trusting a single finger-prick at a camp.
- Walk after meals. Muscle is the organ that uses sugar.
- Do not start a relative’s tablet. Drugs are chosen around kidneys, heart, and other medicines.
- Learn the name of your test — fasting, after food, or HbA1c — so the number has a meaning.
Weight loss that is rapid and unintentional, with vomiting, is not ordinary type 2. That needs same-day care.
When waiting is a bad idea
- Vomiting, abdominal pain, and deep tiredness with known diabetes. This can be a crisis.
- A foot that is red, hot, or black, or a wound you cannot feel.
- Confusion, sweating, and shakiness on tablets that can drop sugar too low.

Questions people ask
Can diabetes be reversed?
Some people return to non-diabetic numbers with weight loss and food changes early on. That is remission, and it needs follow-up, not a victory speech.
Must I stop fruit?
Whole fruit in a normal portion is usually fine. Juice is not the same thing as fruit.
Is jaggery safe?
It is still sugar. It is not a free pass.
If this sounds like you, bring the article on your phone if you want, but let the clinician examine you. Old reports and a list of current medicines make the visit shorter.
