Vaccines adults forget they need

Childhood vaccines are a conversation. Adult vaccines are usually a blank. A few of them prevent disasters that still happen.

This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.

In plain language

A tetanus booster is due if you have a dirty wound and your last dose is uncertain. Pregnant women are offered tetanus and, in season, other vaccines their obstetric clinician recommends. Hepatitis B is worth knowing your status for. Flu vaccine is considered for older adults, pregnant women, and people with heart or lung disease. A dog bite needs the rabies protocol immediately, not after you ‘watch the dog’.

Signs worth noticing

These are the clues families usually notice first. One of them, on its own, is not a diagnosis.

You cannot remember your last tetanus dose.
You are pregnant and have not discussed vaccines.
You work with blood or have a partner with hepatitis B.
A bite or scratch from a dog, monkey, or bat. Wash and seek the vaccine schedule the same day.

What usually sits underneath

Immunity from some vaccines fades. Pregnancy and chronic illness change which ones help. Rabies is almost always fatal once symptoms start, and completely the wrong illness to hesitate over.

Care that is reasonable at home

Keep a note of adult doses in the same folder as your reports.
Ask about hepatitis B if you have never been vaccinated and have any risk.
Do not suck or cover a animal bite with chilli or ash. Wash with soap and running water for fifteen minutes and get the vaccine plan.
Ask a clinician before vaccines if you are on medicines that suppress immunity.

These steps are for someone who is otherwise stable. If the picture is changing quickly, skip the home trial and come in.

When waiting is a bad idea

Any animal bite.
A deep or dirty wound and no memory of tetanus cover.
Exposure to a person with hepatitis B in a household where nobody knows their status.

Questions people ask

Is the flu shot only for children?

No. It is often more useful for older adults and people with heart or lung disease.

Does a small scratch from a dog count?

Yes. Rabies can follow a lick on broken skin or a scratch. Ask the same day.

Can I take vaccines if I have a cold?

A mild cold is usually not a reason to delay. Fever and pregnancy decisions should be individual.
