Dengue warning signs in season
Dengue is a viral illness spread by Aedes mosquitoes, which bite in the daytime. The dangerous part is often not the first fever. It is the leak and the bleeding that can follow as the fever falls.
This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.
In plain language
High fever, severe body ache, pain behind the eyes, and a rash are typical. There is no antibiotic for it. Do not take aspirin or ibuprofen. They increase bleeding. Paracetamol, in a correct dose, is the usual fever medicine if a clinician has agreed. Warning signs include severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, bleeding from the gums or in the stool, restlessness, and a sudden drop in energy as the fever defervesces.
Signs worth noticing
These are the clues families usually notice first. One of them, on its own, is not a diagnosis.
- Fever with severe aches in dengue season.
- A rash, or pain behind the eyes.
- Any bleeding, including heavy periods that are not your normal.
- Abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, dizziness, or black stools.
What usually sits underneath
The virus drops platelets in many people. A number on a report is not, by itself, the whole decision. The clinical warning signs matter more than chasing a platelet count twice a day at home. Fluids are part of care. Fluids do not mean a unregulated flood if you have heart disease.
Care that is reasonable at home
- Rest, drink enough to pass urine, and use only the fever medicine you were told to use.
- Use a mosquito net and repellent even if you are the one who is ill, so the household does not share the virus via the next mosquito.
- Remove standing water around the house. The mosquito breeds in clean water: coolers, pots, bottle caps.
- Come for assessment if you are in a risk group: pregnant, a child, older, or already ill.
These steps are for someone who is otherwise stable. If the picture is changing quickly, skip the home trial and come in.
When waiting is a bad idea
- Any warning sign above.
- A faint, a seizure, or bleeding that does not stop.
- A child who is cold, irritable, or not passing urine.
How Rao Lokram Charitable Trust fits in
OPD and the lab can check the blood count and decide who needs admission. Do not manage a falling platelet count on a WhatsApp group. OPD runs Monday to Sunday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM at Near Rockford School, Anaj Mandi Chowk, Kadipur Road, Shakti Park, Sector 10A, Gurugram, Haryana. Call 98185 48492 or 70423 28047. There is no appointment form on this website.
Questions people ask
Does papaya leaf raise platelets?
It is not a substitute for medical care, and it is not a reason to stay home if you have warning signs.
Should I test on day one?
The usual tests are more informative a little into the illness. A clinician can time it. Come sooner if you look ill.
Is one platelet count enough?
Sometimes. Repeating it without a clinical need creates panic. Repeating it when warning signs appear is essential.
If this sounds like you, bring the article on your phone if you want, but let the clinician examine you. Old reports and a list of current medicines make the visit shorter.
