Heart attack signs in the room you are in
Pressure in the centre of the chest, with sweat, nausea, or breathlessness, is a heart attack until a clinician says it is not. Women and people with diabetes may feel breathlessness, unusual fatigue, or nausea more than dramatic pain.
This page is general education for families in Gurugram. It is not a diagnosis, a medicine list, or a reason to skip a clinician. Doses are deliberately not given.
In plain language
The pain can travel to the jaw, the neck, or the arms. It can feel like burning. It often lasts more than a few minutes. Antacids delay people who should be moving. If the person has been prescribed a specific emergency dose of aspirin or a nitrate, they should follow that personal plan. Do not invent one from this page. Do not drive yourself if you feel faint. A companion should go to the nearest emergency service.
Signs worth noticing
These are the clues families usually notice first. One of them, on its own, is not a diagnosis.
- Pressure or heaviness, not a sharp point you can press.
- Sweat, nausea, or breathlessness with the pain.
- Pain that arrives on exertion and is worse than any usual angina.
- Collapse, or pain with a feeling of doom that is out of character.
What usually sits underneath
A clot blocks a coronary artery. Muscle beyond it starts to die. Minutes change how much muscle is left. Smoking, pressure, sugar, and a previous warning pain are the background. The background can be sorted next week. The clot is today.
Care that is reasonable at home
- Stop activity. Sit or lie in the position that is easiest for breathing.
- Call emergency help. Unlock the door.
- Give the medicines already prescribed for this exact event, if they are in the house and the person is conscious.
- Do not leave them alone, and do not wait to finish a meal.
These steps are for someone who is otherwise stable. If the picture is changing quickly, skip the home trial and come in.
When waiting is a bad idea
- The symptoms above, even if they ease and return.
- A known heart patient whose usual angina spray is not working.
- Fainting or a irregular, very fast heartbeat with the pain.

Questions people ask
Can it be gas?
Yes, gas exists. You cannot tell reliably at home when sweat and pressure are present. Choose the hospital.
Should I take a relative’s sorbitrate?
Only if it was prescribed for you. It can drop blood pressure dangerously.
What if the ECG is normal later?
Come anyway. A single later ECG does not undo a story of prolonged pressure. Some injuries evolve.
If this sounds like you, bring the article on your phone if you want, but let the clinician examine you. Old reports and a list of current medicines make the visit shorter.
